An extraordinary gazette notification issued on September 08, 2026, announces the official orders for the Annual Perahara of the Badulla Katharagama Devalaya. The public notice was issued by Indika Gayan Pathirana, the Divisional Secretary of Badulla.
The annual festival begins with the “Kap Situvima” ceremony on September 12, 2026. This is followed by six days of Inner Perahara running from September 12 to September 17.
The celebration continues with the Kumbal Perahara from September 18 to 22, followed by the Randoli Perahara from September 23 to 27. The festival concludes on September 28 after the morning water-cutting ceremony.
On September 27, the procession starts at the Devalaya premises and proceeds to Badulla Muthiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya. The route passes through Longdon Road, Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha, Cocowatte Road, Udayaraja Mawatha, Vel Bodiya Junction, King’s Street, and Bazzar Street.
