An Extraordinary Gazette notification was published by the Sri Lankan government on September 07, 2026. This official announcement details a local government appointment made under the provisions of the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance.
The notification addresses a vacancy within the Ja-Ela Urban Council. The position became vacant following the resignation of former council member Mr. Hettiarachchige Karunajeewa Thisera.
In accordance with electoral regulations, the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was requested to nominate a qualified candidate from the party to fill the vacant seat within thirty days.
Consequently, Returning Officer W. A. Raviendra Wickramasinghe has officially declared Mr. Athmadalage Benisus Vijitha Perera elected as the new member of the Ja-Ela Urban Council.
