An extraordinary gazette notification was published on September 08, 2026, regarding local government appointments. The notice announces the filling of an official vacancy within the Kurunegala Municipal Council.
It was created due to the resignation of returned member Mr. Balapuwaduge Chula Rathnachandra Mendis. He represented the recognized political party, Sri Lanka Mahajana Pakshaya.
Following provisions under Section 66A(1)(b) of the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance, the party secretary nominated Mr. Thanthri Arachchiralalage Bandujith Sanjeewa Thanthriarachchi to fill the position.
Returning Officer Rathnayaka Mudiyanselage Harendra Bandara Rathnayaka formally declared Mr. Thanthri Arachchiralalage Bandujith Sanjeewa Thanthriarachchi elected to the council. The declaration was issued from the District Elections Office in Kurunegala.
